I did chose the BUG Delver basically because it won the GP Paris and I had all the cards. Since I don’t play much anymore there is no time for testing and so on. It was the first time I played that deck, went surprisingly well. Enjoy.

1. Monoblue StifleNought – Daniel Drephal 2:0
2. BUG – Adrian Dizuba 2:1
3. I remove Pierce, next turn Lili, easy win from there on.

Second Match – BUG Delver – 2:1
He wins dice roll and I end up losing against Delver and Dazes, don’t know exactly how the game went. I get him down to 11 (don’t know how much it was my doing).
Second game I win more or less easily, he keeps a far too passive hand, no threat, no discard. Two Delver rode me to victory.
Last game again he is on the play, but ends up only Pondering (when you see BUG first turn Ponder always be happy). Has far too many land drops, actually my hope was to manascrew him, with two Wastelands, which works for one turn, but with 3 Brainstorms and another Ponder he finds more then enough lands. Somehow we end up in topdeck mode (after Delver, remove, Goyf remove and so on). I topdeck Delver, Goyf, he does not find anything! Yeah!

Third Match – Merfolk – 2:1
Feels like a very bad matchup, so I don’t expect much. He wins dice roll (I think I lost all of them….)
Game one: first turn Vial, I run into two Dazes (once I hymn with one mana open, he sacs one of two Cursecatcher and has a daze… tried to trade for two Cursecatchers, he has Lord, TNN… hits me for 9.. I concede.
Second game: I board in removal, Engineered Plague, Null Rod but no Golgari Charm (not sure anymore, Null Rod was good choice, not only it hits Vial it does also hit Relic of Progenitus which I saw in at least 3 matchups) out go Forces and also Dazes I think. I am on the play, oh yeah. I mulligan a 6 land hand. Next hand is 4 lands and 2 Hymns… I decide to keep anyway. So land go, he land go (yeah, no Vial and no curse catcher), so I do land Hymn and no daze!! Hit TNN and Phantasmal Image! He goes Cavern of Souls and plays Lord (not sure), I go Hymn hit another TNN and something, Waste his land go, draw into removal for Lord, he is manascrewd for a while, Lili secures the win…
Last game: he starts, again without Vial! Don’t remember my hand, but was ok, first turn Delver, maybe Hymn, he is stuck on one land, his life drops: 20, 19, 18, 15, 12, 7… over quite fast, I don’t lose any life, didn’t even fetch…

Fourth Match – Miracles – 1:2
Evil Julius plays Miracle, matchup should be okay. Need to play around Terminus…, we both play quite relaxed the first two games. During the game I had two Dazes that did quite some work, countering Jace and a hardcast Terminus. I win the first one because he can not find another Terminus or does it too late.
Second game: he wins with Jace in play and my hand is empty so I give up, too many Terminus, not enough control and I do one misplay: killing Top with Abrupt Decay instead of Clique so my Delver suicides into Clique trying to kill Jace….
Last game he wins in turns with enough angels casting Entreat twice…. Matchup felt okay anyway, not sure about boarding out Forces, but probably it is right and you hope to win with discard and Dazes. Actually I have two Hymns in the second round but fail to find enough threats or he has to much removal. Really hard to get enough damage through… but fair matchup, he boarded out the CBs and I did not board in Golgari Charm but probably should even boarded out some Abrupt decay. I boarded in Clique, Jace, Library, Null Rod, I think that’s it. Really though matchup after all, he has so much removal, Snapcaster, STP, terminus… and plays good from top with Top, probably more Clique in sideboard would help, since they can also removal miracled cards!

Fifth Match – Death & Taxes – 2:0
No idea about the matchup but at least post board I have 3 Lilis, 4 Abrupt Decay, 2 Disfigure, 1 Dismember, 1 Diabolic edict and Null Rod, no Forces anymore and Dazes also go out, which makes it favourable for me I would say.
First round she can not establish anything close to control, even with second turn Thalia and third turn Mystic, I kill Mystic with Abrupt and two turns later I cast Hymn and hit Jitte and Batterskull. Lili hits the board and I win. Thaila stalling a bit but easy win more or less. I think also here I find Wastelands so she is bit manascrewed and Lili makes her discard or sacrificing her creatures, also since D&T runs Wastelands and Rishadan Port it is also very vulnerable to Wastelands…
Second round: She plays land and go, I have Thoughtseize and see: Celestial Flare (not sure if needed), Rest in Peace, 2 Thalia, 1 Stoneforge, 1 Rishadan Port. I take Stoneforge (without Thoughtseize game would have been much harder), I pass, she plays Rest in Peace (I don’t care so much, in my opinion a mistake, Thalia would have been much better, of course she does not know about Hymn). So my turn: Hymn, I hit both Thalias!! One Delver and a Lili is enough to win easily. Also she is manascrewd because I draw into wastelands (not exactly sure).
Second game was a really easy win, but I think these two rounds does not really represent the matchup. Also, no first turn vial is really bad for the deck but please correct me if I am wrong here.

Sixth Match – Esper Stoneblade – 2:1
First I want to say that this was the toughest matchup and also most interesting, I did some misplays and sometimes Daniel allowed me to take something back, much thanks for that. Was most fun and challenging matchup.
So first game: Thoughtseize sees: Flooded, Island, Snapcaster Mage, Jace, Clique, I take Clique, I think I can handle Jace later on. Second turn Confi hits board, I get a Force (5 damage, yeah), not sure anymore I think I have a second Confi and a Deathrite shaman, hit him 3 times, also have to kill Jace, and game over.
Second game: I board out, Dazes and Forces, in go Jace, Clique, Null Rod, Diabolic Edict, Dismember (and not sure anymore). TNN is still quite evil. Anyway I think I do some misplays, also committing too much to the board. And he saves his life twice with two Supreme Verdict… Jace is on the board, needle on Lili and Stoneforge, my hand is empty, I concede soon, also I got him down to 5 life and even ultimated lili once….
Last round is long and grindy, I win in the turns (turn 3) with Goyf for the last 3 damage. I don’t remember so much but we end up in topdeck mode and I draw enough threats to win. He also plays both Supreme Verdicts but I keep some threats in hand. Once I play two Deathrite and he plays Needle on Deathrite (probably the right play), but next turn I have Lili and he never gets rid of her. Finally I Abrupt Decay his Needle and deal him 4 damage with Deathrites, he casts Supreme Verdict but I find the Goyf in time. In the end I remove his Rest in Peace with Abrupt decay, Lili kills Batterskull token and Goyf hits board. Win…

Lili feels really strong, you always find something to discard, let it be Hymn, Thoughtseize, lands… or just having an empty hand. Thinking about it Stifle could have been really awesome but I am not sure what to cut, I guess you could play Stifle instead of Daze because people expect Daze and play around it so the surprise moment is quite strong. And again I did sideboard out Forces most of the time, of course I did not play against combo at all (there was only one combo player) but maybe someone could risk that and put all 4 Forces into the sideboard and put 3 Stifle main board or another Thoughtseize.
And Confi felt lot stronger then Tombstalker for sure!
Please add details or correct me, I will change my post and add what is missing, I surely don’t remember a lot and try to get most out of my notes.

Hope some people read and enjoy the report!

– Gideon Zipprich

Hier der erste Turnierbericht eines Teilnehmers: 5:1, second place with BUG Delver, below you can find a short report about every match.
